February 6, 2019 - Day 304 - 1 Kings 13

I am writing from my desk in Seattle, WA.

1 Kings 13:

So a man of God from Judah came to Bethel where Jeroboam was and they talked about an altar and Jeroboam's hand shriveled up.  Jeroboam told the man of God to fix his hand so he did, and then he invited him to eat.  The man of God said he can't eat or drink or go back the way he came, so he moved on.

The man of God meets a prophet who also invites him to eat and drink, and he responds with the same spiel.  The prophet lies to the man of God and says that he's a prophet and God said it was okay.  Well this wasn't okay and God told the prophet that the man of God was as good as dead, since God said the man of God couldn't do this.  Following?  Good.

Well the man of God heads out and gets mauled by a lion and dies.  The prophet retrieved the body and buried him, and said he wanted to be buried beside him.

I don't understand why the prophet dumped on the man of God, and then acted like he cares so much.  This is weird.

This chapter closes with a reminder that Jeroboam is an asshole and his downfall is looming.
