February 1, 2019 - Day 299 - 1 Kings 8

I am writing from my bed in Seattle, WA.

1 Kings 8:

The ark comes up the temple for Solomon and so many animals get sacrificed, apparently so many that they couldn’t even be counted.  What a party!

A bunch of people were there and Solomon blessed them.  Then Solomon does a recap of some God highlights, and some of David’s greatest hits.

Then Solomon does a dedication prayer for the ark in the temple.  This is just a reminder than God has his back and for God to help out whenever Solomon is in a rough patch.  The prayers up to this point are all rather similar.

One part stands out:

““As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name— for they will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm—when they come and pray toward this temple, then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.”

Let that one sink in.

Solomon goes on with some more pretty cool stuff, praying for mercy for his people.

Then he blessed the people and did some more sacrifices.  Basically this chapter is a party.
