January 3, 2019 - Day 270 - 2 Samuel 3
I am writing from my hotel in Missoula, MT.
2 Samuel 3:
So the war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a while, with the former getting weaker and the latter getting stronger.
One of Saul's sons accuse Abner of sleeping with Saul's concubine, and they bicker a bit, it is lame.
David demands that he make Michal (one of Saul's daughters) his wife, even though she is already married. So they drag her away from her husband.
David is often revered as this great dude who defeated Goliath, but as you've seen lately, he's a bit of an asshole. Now you'll probably feel slightly offended at this statement if you've been told your entire life that David is a hero, but I'm willing to bet you've never read this book. Hmm?
David's men and Abner had just returned from a raid that brought them a lot of plunder, which assumes they slaughtered a bunch of people, based on literally everything else in the Bible up to this point.
Then Joab kills Abner. Everybody just killing everyone. Ya know, like they do in the Bible. How well are you following your Bible?
David says him and his people are innocent from this death of Abner.
Then everyone wept for Abner.
Then David is hoping for God to get whoever murdered Abner.
Barbaric.
