September 17, 2018 - Day 162 - Deuteronomy 9

I am writing from my hotel room in San Francisco, CA.

Deuteronomy 9:

This chapter opens with Moses speaking to the Israelites.  Telling them they are about to cross the Jordan and take nations greater and stronger than them.  There will be large cities with huge walls.  But because god is with them, god goes first and will destroy them.

Hold up.  God isn’t destroying anyone.  These Israelites believe in something bigger than themselves that calls them into their future, because of that, they can conquer whatever obstacle is in front of them, regardless of how daunting.  That is the point of what is happening here in our story.

We continue with a triple warning:  They aren’t getting the land because of their righteousness.  Meaning, there’s nothing they did to inherently deserve this other than create a future for themselves.

The rest is just some Exodus recaps about stuff that Moses did.
