June 2, 2018 - Day 55 - Exodus 5

I am writing from my desk in Seattle, WA.

Exodus 5:

Aaron and Moses go to Pharaoh and tell him to let the people go.  They said God sent them.  Pharaoh of course doesn't buy this (remember that God made sure he wouldn't buy it), and declines the invitation to let all of his slaves free.  Big surprise.  Pharaoh says because he does not know God, he will not oblige.

Aaron and Moses ask Pharaoh to take them on a three day hike into the sticks and offer up some sweet sacrifices to God, or they are gonna be toast.

Imagine how sacrifices got started.  I bet it rained, someone thought they should kill a pig, they killed a pig, and it stopped raining.  Or what if they killed one pig and it didn't stop raining, so they killed multiple pigs until the rain (inevitably) stopped.  They thought it had something to do with dead pigs, but it was just the clouds.  Anyway.

Pharaoh demands the slaves to work harder and not pay attention to the lies being spread by these gents.  The slaves are no longer supplied with straw; they have to gather their own, but their work requirements stay the same.  The slave drivers beat the Israelites, demanding productivity.

Israelite overseers brought these issues to Pharaoh, which he dismissed as laziness.

This chapter ends with Moses being frustrated.

--Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me?  Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.”--

Moses still doesn't see the point in all of this.  He's upset with God, and wondering why God hasn't shown up.  Have you ever wondered why God hasn't shown up?
