June 11, 2018 - Day 64 - Exodus 14

I am writing from my desk in Seattle, WA.

Exodus 14:

God tells Moses to camp in a weird spot so Pharaoh will think the Israelites are confused and wandering.  God says the following:

"And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.”

Yikes.  Calm down.

Pharaoh realizes they let everyone go and  God hardened his heart to make sure he'd go after them.  Pharaoh pursued the Israelites and overtook them near their camp.

The Israelites are upset at Moses.  They said they'd rather work for the Egyptians than die out here in the desert.  Moses told them not to be afraid, that God has their back.  They just need to "be still."  We are not told what this means.

God wonders why Moses is crying out, and tells him to raise his staff to split the sea so that the Israelites can walk through.  God will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so they will follow.  It looks like we are about to part the Red Sea!

During the night, some angels turned into clouds and got in between the Egyptians and Israelites so they wouldn't bother each other.

Here we go.  Moses stretches out his hand over the sea and the water split right down the middle, waves on each side.  This would be interesting to see.  I wonder what happened to the fish.  The average depth of the Red Sea is around 1600 feet.  So it was like walking down a pretty good sized mountain, and then walking backing up.  Interesting.

The Egyptians followed them into the sea, but God jammed the wheels of the chariots.  lol

With all the Egyptians in the sea, God dropped the waves like they was hot and drowned every one of them bitches.  EVERY LAST ONE.  BYE.

The Israelites saw the dead Egyptians and then feared God.  Yeah.  No kidding.

So what the hell?  God set them up.  God hardened Pharaoh's heart so the Egyptians would follow.  Had God not done that, then they would've never followed them, thus no reason for the massive water grave.

If this story is literal and God did all this, God is a raging megalomaniac.

As a metaphor, this story comes to life.

The Egyptians aren't actual people drowning.

The Egyptians are fear.

I'll close this entry with the lyrics of "No Longer Slaves" by Melissa and John Helser.  I encourage you to check it out.

"You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me and I
Stand and sing
I am child of God"
