June 1, 2018 - Day 54 - Exodus 4

I am writing from my desk in Seattle, WA.

Exodus 4:

This one picks up right where the last one left off.

Remember that Moses is being called by God to go into Egypt and free the Israelites.

He's concerned that they will not believe he was sent there by God.  So God has him throw his staff on the ground and it turns into a snake.  Interesting move.  God tells Moses to grab the snake, so he does, and it turns back into a staff.  That there is some fancy David Blaine stuff.

The magic show continues as God tells Moses to put his hand inside his cloak.  He pulls it out leprous, puts it back in, and pulls it out perfectly fine.  Is this your card?

God tells Moses if they don't believe the first sign, they may believe the second.  And if all else fails, to take some Nile water and pour it on the ground.  Because, ya know, it will turn into blood.

Moses is hesitant because he does not think he is worthy of this task, yet God reminds him again that he will not be alone.  Moses pleads for God to send someone else.

God tells Moses that his brother Aaron will speak to the people for Moses, but that Moses must perform the signs with his fancy staff.

At this point, Moses rounds up the family and heads for Egypt.

Ok this next part is weird.  Try to stay with me.

God tells Moses to perform all the magic tricks to Pharaoh.  However, God will harden the heart of Pharaoh so that he won't let the people go.  Hmm.  The part I will need to quote:
----
Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you, “Let my son go, so he may worship me.” But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’”
----
So God is telling Pharaoh through Moses to let Israel go, but since Pharaoh refused (actually God made him refuse), God is going to kill his firstborn son.

To summarize:  God is threatening to kill Pharaoh's son because Pharaoh refused to let the people go because God made him refuse to let the people go.  I'm not Pharaoh ever had a choice in the matter.  Sucks.

Moving on.  At the hotel, God met Moses and was about to kill him (kill Moses or his firstborn?  I thought he was gonna kill Pharaoh's first born?  I'm confused).  Huh?  Luckily, the wife of Moses (Zipporah) took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin, and touched Moses' feet with it.

SERIOUSLY.  That is in the Bible lol.  read it yo.

God tells Aaron to go into the wilderness and meet Moses.  They met and shared a kiss.  Moses gets Aaron up to speed on all the stuff he's supposed to say.  They round up the elders and Aaron tells them everything that God told Moses.  Moses performs all the magic tricks.  When the people heard that God was behind it, they bent the knee.

You are going to be invited into an extraordinary life.  FOLLOW THAT PATH.

Lots of magic tricks with a dash of circumcision in this chapter.  I hope you enjoyed it!
