May 30, 2018 - Day 52 - Exodus 2

I am writing from my living room in Seattle, WA.

MOSES BOUT TO STEP ON THE SCENE.

Exodus 2:

So a Levite dude married a Levite woman (ya know, keep it in the family) and they had a baby.  The mother tried to hide him, but could only hide him for so long so put him in a basket by the Nile.  Pharaoh's daughter ended up finding him and raising him and called him Moses.

Moses sounds like the word "draw out" in Hebrew, as she drew him out of the water.

Moses grew up, saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew (remember that he's a Hebrew) and killed the Egyptian.  Calm down Moses.

The next day he sees two Hebrews fighting each other.  He asked one why he was fighting the other one.

Verse 14 continues:  The man said, “Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “What I did must have become known.”

Its interesting that Moses is afraid here.

Pharaoh heard about this and tried to kill Moses, but Moses dipped out to Midian.  There he met a bunch of ladies, who were the daughter of a priest.  So they had a flock, some shepherds drove the away, but Moses stepped in and got some water for them.  I assume this was a lovely gesture.

They tell their dad, he asks what happened, they said an Egyptian saved their flock, and he asked why they didn't invite him over.  Remember that Moses is not Egyptian, but Hebrew.

So Moses goes over for dinner and the dad offered up a daughter for him to marry.  Well that escalated quickly.  They had a baby.

The king of Egypt died, and the Israelites cried for help out of their slavery.  God heard these groans and was concerned.

So I know its generally thought that the Israelites are God's chosen people, but what if we are all God's chosen people?  What I mean by that:  Perhaps the Israelite perspective is only one of many perspectives of what it could look like to live out a life where we are called to something greater?

Something to think about.
