May 22, 2018 - Day 44 - Genesis 44
I am writing from my hotel room in Salt Lake City, UT.
Genesis 44:
Joseph tells his steward to fill everyone's luggage with as much food as they can carry, as well as some silver. He has his cup put in the youngest one's bag (Benjamin). Joseph still has yet to reveal his identity.
The next morning, Joseph tells his steward to go after the men and shame them for taking the cup. What?? So the steward accuses them of stealing (HE PUT THE CUP IN THERE), and they are a bit defensive. They say that if one of them has the cup, he will die and the rest will become slaves. But then he says that the one who has it will be a slave and then the rest can go. Well which one is it?

The next morning, Joseph tells his steward to go after the men and shame them for taking the cup. What?? So the steward accuses them of stealing (HE PUT THE CUP IN THERE), and they are a bit defensive. They say that if one of them has the cup, he will die and the rest will become slaves. But then he says that the one who has it will be a slave and then the rest can go. Well which one is it?
'If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord’s slaves.” “Very well, then,” he said, “let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave; the rest of you will be free from blame.”'
Well that's not as he says, thats something totally different. Hmm.
The steward inspects their belongings and finds the cup in Benjamin's bag. WELL DUH, YOU PUT IT THERE. What is happening???
The others ripped their clothes returned to the city. They say how they are servants now, but Joseph says they can go free and only the cup guy will be the slave; and he directs them to go back to their dad in peace.
Judah asks Joseph if he has a brother or a father. Judah tells him the story of their dad and how he sent them back for more food and had to bring Benjamin since Joseph said he would only give them more food if they brought Benjamin. Got it?? Judah tells Joseph that if Benjamin isn't with him when they get back, that their dad (Israel aka Jacob) will die. He pleads with Joseph that he stay in place of Benjamin.
And this chapter ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. What happens next? Does Joseph reveal his identity? Does Benjamin stay? HMM.
